Bear in the woods
After living here for two years and never seeing a single bear, we have been overly blessed with their presence lately. I went to do the barn chores yesterday evening and this bear was just northeast of the turkey pen. He was a pretty good sized brown bear. At 5AM this morning, he came back, this time on our porch, and moved our freezer around. Fortunately we had locked it the day before, but, as soon as I heard him, I turned on the porch light and he ran away.

Do you have a farm there at Sangre de Cristo?
We are up in the mountains at 9,000 ft. That is one of the many good things about Sangre de Cristo Seminary – its unique and seculded learning environment. I wouldn’t say we have a farm here although the Andrew Zeller family has nine of twelve children at home and that is a lot of mouths to feed. Mrs. Zeller (Bethann) raises goats, chickens, rabbits, turkeys and Korgy puppies. She also has a greenhouse and a couple of outdoor gardens. To say she is very industrious would be putting it mildly. When the Zellers go on vacation, someone has to tend “the farm” as you say, and this past week it was my privilege. Again, the seminary education here is often more than just book learning!
So, I am guessing that I could probably raise my own chickens and goats during my stay there—if I wanted to.
Probably not…I think that option is for the permanent residents only.
