Position of Prayer

“But as for me, by Thine abundant lovingkindness I will enter Thy house,
At Thy holy temple I will bow in reverence for Thee.  – Psalm 5:7

Throughout the past several millennia there have been all kinds of debate about the proper position for prayer and worship.  The Bible depicts people praying and worshipping in different positions so I can’t dogmatically say that any one position is the correct one.  God looks at the heart.  On the other hand, there is an old saying from that wise and noble bird Toucan Sam, “I follow my nose wherever it goes.”  The point is, our body moves in the direction our heart commands, and if our heart is humbly telling us to bow down to God, that is what we must do.

The description of worship in heaven that is given in the book of Revelation makes it pretty clear that we will be on our knees fairly often.  Actually, I have found that the more I am on my knees in prayer, the more I want to be there.  The blessing of going before the throne of God is practice for the real thing in heaven.  But here in this life, it is a wonderful thing to know that we can pray and worship in our heart before the Almighty Creator of the universe, and it is just as if we are there before His throne in heaven.  When we think of it this way, it tends to put us in the proper mind for what our position in prayer should be.

Have a happy celebration of the resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!  He is alive!
